Primary Objective(s)

The primary responsibilities of the position are to work with development teams, data architect and other members of the BI/Data Services Team to develop, maintain and enhance data models and metadata associated with FindLaw’s transactional, data warehouse databases. Provide security, governance and best practices as it relates to databases and data modeling.

Key Responsibilities
- Gather & identify business data requirements from business partners and development teams, understand the information needs and translate those data requirements into conceptual, logical and physical database models. Database models will include operational databases, analytical, dimensional, and specific data marts designed to support transactional/operational systems as well as BI analytical processing and ad hoc business reporting.
- Analyze source systems and perform complex source data analysis to support ad-hoc and standing reporting development. Help drive solutions from business and technical requirements.
- Maintain and enhance data models for the enterprise.
- Collaborate on strategic directions of the team; provide ideas, thoughts on how to improve our methodologies and practices
- Mentor junior or contract modelers, ETL & BI development teams and assist developers.
- Collaborate closely with the Enterprise Architecture team and Data Architect to ensure alignment of the data models to ensure proper integration of data across the entire enterprise.
- Have the ability to work on multiple projects with varying level of complexity and changing priorities.
- Be an advocate for the practice of modeling in technology and communicate the benefits to the FindLaw organization. Provide consultation to enterprise data modeling efforts.
- Promote data modeling best practices and processes across FindLaw Technology. Enforce standards while still meeting demanding timelines. Partner with developers both locally and at other sites to achieve the best possible solutions.
- Assist with production support and maintenance.
- Review source systems and business publications to accurately capture new data requirements and integrate them into the logical data model.
- Conduct data model reviews with developers, architects, business analysts and subject matter experts to collaborate and gain consensus.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Computer Science, Business Data Processing, Computer Information Systems or related field is required.
- A minimum of 8 years of database and data modeling experience and formal software development processes.Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Expert in SQL and SQL query development.
- Data modeling related to conceptual, logical, and physical model design.
- Experience in gathering and clarifying business and technical requirements
- Strong problem solving, debugging and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interface with business customers and team members
- Experience with Oracle RDMS is preferred. Mark Logic, and Semaphore would be a plus.
- Experience with modeling tools, PowerDesigner would be a plus
- Working knowledge and understanding of transactional and information systems, data warehouse architecture, data marts, MDM methodologies and life cycles as well as ETL processes. Informatica PowerCenter knowledge would be a plus.
- Experience with big data concepts such as Hadoop, Datameer, HDFS would be a plus
- Agile SDLC experience would be a plus
- Knowledge of database performance tuning techniques.
- Data warehouse environments such as partitioning, conditional, cubes, dimension and fact definitions as well other de-normalization techniques
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment both locally and with other geographical locations.
- Positive attitude, Independent problem solver and fast learner. Ability to work with minimal formal direction.
- Strong debugging and support experience
- Understanding of Business Intelligence architectures and tools such as, Business Objects, Tableau, Datameer, and reporting dashboards
- Data analysis/profiling and reverse engineering of data
- Familiar with XML schema design a plus.
- Knowledge of scripting and/or programming languages
